Ugadi 2024 (Yugadi) is also known as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, it is a vibrant and joyous festival that marks the beginning of the new year in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. This auspicious occasion is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm, bringing people together to welcome a fresh start and new beginnings, A festive start to the New Year.

Ugadi holds a special place in the hearts of people, as it signifies the onset of a new year according to the Hindu calendar. It is a time for reflection, renewal, and rejuvenation, where individuals seek blessings for prosperity, good health, and success in the coming year.

The celebrations of Ugadi and its rich traditions and customs that have been passed down through generations. From cleaning homes and decorating them with colorful rangoli designs to wearing new clothes and preparing delicious traditional dishes, every aspect of Ugadi is filled with symbolism and meaning.

One of the most popular dishes prepared during Ugadi is Ugadi Pachadi. This unique dish is a mixture of six different tastes - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, tangy, and spicy - symbolizing the different experiences that life has to offer. Each taste represents a different emotion or aspect of life, and together they create a harmonious blend of flavors. To make Ugadi Pachadi, you will require following ingredients: - 1 cup jaggery - 1 raw mango, peeled and grated - 1 tablespoon tamarind paste - 1 teaspoon red chili powder - 1 teaspoon salt - 1 tablespoon neem flowers (optional) - 1 tablespoon grated coconut (optional) Method to prepare Ugadi Pachadi 1. In a bowl, mix together the jaggery, grated mango, tamarind paste, red chili powder, and salt. 2. Add the neem flowers and grated coconut (optional) 3. Mix everything well to combine all the flavors. 4. Serve the Ugadi Pachadi as a side dish with your meal or as a dessert.

In addition to Ugadi Pachadi, other traditional dishes like Puliyogare (tamarind rice), Bobbatlu (a sweet stuffed flatbread), and Holige/obbattu (sweet stuffed pancake) are also prepared during this festive occasion and sharing with neighbors, friends and families was the big part of this Ugadi 2024 festival.

When we were children, we used to wait for the delicious delicacies to feast on it, especially when it's shared by neighbors.

Ugadi is a time for families and communities to come together and celebrate in unity. People exchange greetings, visit temples to seek blessings from the deities, and participate in cultural events and performances that showcase the rich heritage of the region. The festive atmosphere is further enhanced by traditional music and dance and also the street processions, and colorful decorations that adorn homes and streets. It is a time of joy, laughter, and merriment as people usher in the new year with optimism and positivity.

As per the age-old legend, the creation of the universe was started on this day by Lord Brahma and he went on to create months, weeks, and days. Thus the Ugadi festival started to be celebrated as Ugadi marks the first day in the creation of the universe.

 Name of the "Ugadi" is derived from the Sanskrit words "Yuga" meaning age and "Adi" meaning beginning.
